Dissapointingly obvious choice of covers,
This review is from: A Foreign Sound (Audio CD)
Caetano Veloso's beautiful voice and sense of rhythm is not enough to carry this collection of cover versions. While he tries a few contemporary numbers (from Nirvana, for one) the majority are from classic writers such as Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, and as such have been heard many times before. Adding the slightest hint of bossa nova to them is not enough to make them new, so this album suffers from repetition even the first time you hear it.
There is nothing as inventive as his previous cover of Billie Jean, and he seems just too restrained at times. A shame, but this album won't bring him to the wider audience he deserves.
