5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it while you can!, 5 Jun 2008

This review is from: The Godfather Trilogy : Remastered Collection - Limited Edition Steelbook Metal Packaging (Exclusive To Amazon.co.uk) [1971] [DVD] (DVD)
The movies speak for themselves; Part I & II are classics, and the much maligned part III is still good in it's own right but obviously not in the same league as the first two. However get this limited "steelbook" edition while you can as it's very cool. I wondered how they were going to get all 5 discs into a slimline case but they managed it! Discs 1-3 are the movies. It's worth noting that Part II is now all on 1 disc (and it's all on one side, it isn't a "flipper"), whereas previously the film was spread across 2 discs. Disc 4 is all of the extras from the last boxset, and disc 5 is the all-new supplementary material. I already owned the previous boxset so wasn't sure if it was worth "double-dipping" for this release. However if you factor in the restored prints, new extras, Part 2 on being on 1 disc, the cool steelbook design, and a very reasonable price I'd say it's worth getting.

Does Part II fit onto 1 disc as it is double-sided (ie you have to flip it over) or is it continuous on 1-side of the disc please ?

it's continuous on the same side, there is no flipping required!
I should also state that while the Amazon version is a Steelbook, I ordered a similar set from Play.com for the same price and it did not come in a steelbook - it was just a standard card box with the 4 slimline cases inside, still looks very good though. I have a feeling that once the Steelbook editions run out Amazon might start supplying the cardboard version - just something to bear in mind.

Hi Mr. Williams, I got this steelbook edition a week ago, and I can tell you that "The Godfather: Part II" is contionuous on only one side of the disc. Moreover, it does include Coppola's commentary and all although it runs for over 193 minutes.

Thanks.

How odd that they've managed to now fit it onto 1 side of a disc - presumably with no loss in picture quality !

I am glad you mention part 3 - it always surprises me that it should be so underrated. In my opinion, the whole series is like a triptyque, and part 3 is an integrated part of it. Also: logical, I think.
This is, like for so many others, one of the films that made the deepest impression on me. I find that it is worth viewing again and again. I have an earlier edition of it, but is seems from your and a few other rewievs that I should buy this one as well.
