Digging up the Past,
This review is from: ORANGE (Kindle Edition)
Cherry Coombe roots around in the past with intelligence and wit: shifting the narrative perspective, placing together relevant memories and characters and focusing on those episodes which are in the grand scheme of the book - turning points or illuminating moments. It is a remarkable piece: hilarious, full of pathos, dark and sombre, wise and irreverent, providing genuine insight into the encounter group culture of the 70s without ever being pompous or self-pitying. The writing style is sharp, lean and attention-grabbing from the very first line; such a rewarding and thought-provoking read, with some laugh-out-loud set pieces.
