droppin things Betty Carter,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Droppin Things (Audio CD)
Every serious jazz collection should have one Betty Carter and this is as good as most of her albums. Things got so bad for her in the 1970's she formed her own record label BetCar as no major label would risk her uncompromising ideosincratic style, where her amazing voice could sound like a Coltrane solo. Fortunately Verve purchased the masters from her, added professional graphics and re-issued them with good marketing and an almost forgotten great of the true art of jazz singing was re-born. It is difficult to compare her to any other jazz singer as like Louis,Bird or Ornette Coleman she is a one-off.
Just buy it. And, the recording quality is superb.
