Fell At The Final Hurdle,

This review is from: Age of Empires II - Gold Edition (PC) (Video Game)
Who knows? Maybe I have been spoilt by the excellent work that CDV have done on Cossacks. When I first started the game on AOE2 I was very very impressed. The graphics are beautiful, the upgrades and progressions to the next age and the massive number of different scenarios and units is truly impressive.
So whats the problem? The one and what I regard as the only problems is the battle interface. You spend time building up your army ready to send it across the map to tackle your enemy. The only problem is, that when you do send it to attack - it is more of a point and click panic. Units dont seem to respond that well to you commands and you often find that leaving your troops near a danger zone while just checking over your own base has disastrous consequences.
A good battle has some sense of control, though with this game it just seems the only way to win is to send everything you have on a mass attack and just keep your fingers crossed.
Maybe I have missed the point, but this game really disappointed me. Not because what it is, but more because of what it could have been
