Bass lacking, but an otherwise good Airplay speaker,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Panasonic SC-AP01E-K Black Slim Wireless Speaker System with Airplay (Electronics)
I bought this as a cheap Airplay speaker to put on top of the fridge in the kitchen, and seeing how thin it was I knew that weak bass was to be expected - sure enough, anyone looking for loud thumping bass is likely to be disappointed. That aside, sound quality is decent - certain on par for other speakers in this price range.
C. Shepherd's review mentioned some of the issues with the Airplay implementation (i.e. audio lag, a delay in establishing a connection) - but these problems are inherent to all Airplay speakers, which in my opinion are worth putting up with for the benefits that Airplay brings over Bluetooth audio. (Better audio quality, the ability for any network device to access the speaker rather than being limited by Bluetooth range, and so on). If you'r familiar with Airplay technology, you'll find this speaker to be no worse than any other.
Network configuration can be done automatically using WPS (if you're anything like me it'll be the first time you've used it, if your router supports it) - on a device with no display it's by far the easiest way to connect the speaker to your network. If your router doesn't support WPS, putting the speaker into setup mode will broadcast a temporary wireless network which you can connect to using an iPhone/PC/Mac/iPad to access the speaker's setup page. From there you can manually input your WiFi network details.
As mentioned in other reviews, you can control the speaker's volume and tweak various audio settings using the iPhone app from the App Store. Personally I don't find this useful after the initial setup - but it's vital for things like being able to turn off auto-sleep (it's annoying when you want to connect to the speaker only to find it's in standby).
All in all, it's an excellent speaker for the money. If you're specifically looking for something with Airplay support and you don't care about too much bass in your music, you'd be hard pressed to find anything better.
