5.0 out of 5 stars A very informative, mind blowing book!, 31 Oct 2009
This review is from: Dianetics the Modern Science of Mental (Paperback)
I loved this book. It was a fascinating, informative and useful read.

This book takes you through the mechanisms of the mind step by step, it shows by means that the reader can experience for himself, what exactly the mind is, how the mind works and what you can do to help yourself or others that are being affected by the part of the mind that reacts to things without being rational.

I got so into the book that I didn't want it to end. It explained so much not only about others around me but about myself as well - as much as I don't like to admit it.

I decided to try the technique and I can tell you from my own experience that this thing works.

As a direct result of Dianetics I no longer am haunted by past failures and losses. I no longer have self doubt and self loathing, I am far more happy and more me without all the baggage that I was carrying around with me.
Life is truly more a pleasureable experience and I am actually finding that life can be fun now.

For many years I have been interested in the mind and what makes man tick. I have never felt satisfied with the hit and miss nature of psychology (sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, even with people troubled by the same problem), or the "solutions" of Psychiatry where a person is either given dangerous drugs or worse (ECT and lobotomy for instance among other unpleasant practices) which might make him more quiet and tractable but it certainly doesn't make him better, it doesn't get to the route of a persons problem it only masks or increases the problem.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in finding out what the mind really is, what the mind does and how to change it for the better.

I suspect you are a $cientologist. The facts remain, this book lacks any kind of empircal data. It is not a science at all. It is simply the fantasy of a poor science fiction writer and acknowledged liar.

Wow, another positive review of Dianetics which also needlessly slams psychiatry. Fancy that! ;)

Totally agree with you, S.F. Johnson.

F. Perbohner is certainly a Scientologist. Who else would write a review propping up books by the foudner of the vicious cult known as Scientology?

Jon Snow says:
I wonder if this is the same Fran Perbohner who sells this book day-in day-out, as part of her job. You know, at the the Hubbard Academy of Personal Independence, Edinburgh.

Remember, she has to stay up-stat and bring in new revenue constantly, via book sales. But surely, this can't be writen by the Scientologist F Perbohner as this would a conflict of interest.

And I know Scientologists adhere to the highest ethical standards.

Thank you for the background work. This is hilarious.

New theories Emma? Sorry to tell you the book is 60 years old. And it is largely plagiarized and recycled - badly - from early-mid 1900s psychiatry and psychoanalysis, with a large helping of sci-fi. Oh, and disproven twice, with no empirical evidence whatsoever in its favour.

Now saying you were totally against Scientology is a cheap persuasion trick. If that's what the 'Church' is teaching you on your courses you should get your money back.

Public understanding of Scientology has improved enormously from when it was written, and, since the advent of the web, many more people now know that this book is the first step in a 'Bait & Switch', where you - eventually - learn how, 75 million years ago on Earth, the evil intergalactic emperor Lord Xenu brought billions of aliens to Earth (Then called 'Teegeeack'), stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs so that their souls stick to human bodies and really mess things up for the human race.
(I'm not making this up!)

I've just told you that sci fi story for free.

In Scientology, learning this (secret) story, which Scientologists regard as the zenith of their Scripture and truth (yes, really) will eventually cost you an estimated $400,000 after years of gobbledegook.

This is confirmable on Wikipedia's entry for "Xenu".
