2.0 out of 5 stars Sharpes Challenge blu ray 2006, 13 Feb. 2011
By
This review is from: Sharpe's Challenge [Blu-ray] [Region Free] (Blu-ray)
Buyers beware - I already own the dvd of Sharpes Challenge but bought the blu ray version to get high quality picture and sound. Both are better but numerous scenes have been cut from the blu ray version making this far shorter (38 minutes to be exact) than the dvd version. as a result the story does not flow and does not make so much sense. I do not know why they made these drastic cuts and until they release a full length blu ray I will stick to my original dvd.

Thank you for the warning.

Exactly how many minutes does the original DVD have?

My original PAL Region 4 DVD has 200 min approx so, yes according to the release info they have ripped out footage. So Glad PaulC alerted us to this before I bought this. I would love to know why 2entertain would do such a thing.

Thank you. It all becomes curiouser and curiouser, as I now have a region 1 DVD which clocks in at 138 minutes, exactly as shown on the box. However, there are extensive (and very good) extras and perhaps they make up the 200 minutes to which you refer.

Just put the DVD into the player to check, you are correct the film is 138 minutes, my DVD release must be adding the extras to make the total time which is odd. Still longer than the Blu-ray release that's for sure. Just put the DVD in as I've never had a chance to watch it, I do wish the Blu-ray was the full film as the DVD looks pretty poor on my new 40" screen.

I can also confirm that the DVD 2-disc edition has both the original, extended cut and the trimmed down 'movie' cut. The Blu-ray only has the trimmed down cut. You'll have to get the DVD and make do with the standard definition quality, but it is the authentic Sharpe experience.

Thanks for the info PaulC. I was going to buy it but after reading all the Reviews AND those of Sharpes Peril, I think I will Forget about both of them.
