I love this book. Written by a greedy man with an excellent turn of phrase, it's super-practical, with beautiful illustrations + it's FUNNY - see p55 comments on fish leather, for example. It's got some clear nods towards the trends currently pressing foodie buttons (make your own gin, roast your own coffee) but equally, masses of things you properly want to try. I'm never going to build a cold smokehouse or a gym locker offset barbecue, for example, but the chapter on cheesemaking has made me run out to find rennet. And the chapter on salami makes it sound remarkably simple, when I'm sure it's not. What could be more reassuring than a food DIY book written by someone who is demonstrably still alive + cooking? Recommended.
