fantastic machine, fantastic coffee,
This review is from: Cuisinart DGB900BCU Grind and Brew Coffee Maker (Kitchen & Home)
I've had this for a few weeks now and I've been very happy with it. I had a standard filter coffee machine before, and this is a major upgrade. The first time I had fresh coffee waiting for me in the morning after setting the timer, I was a very happy man! The machine looks classy and the build quality is good.
The hopper on the top keeps the coffee beans nice and fresh, and the grinding is quick and not too noisy. I like the strength of the coffee it produces and find the built-in reusable filter adequate. The manual says that the filter has to be completely dry, but I've not had any problems making several batches of coffee in a row, I just rinse the filter and put it back in. The thermos carafe works really well. I agree with other reviewers that it has to be tilted a long way to get the last bit of coffee out, but that's because it has a really good automatic valve that prevents coffee spills and keeps the heat in. Worth the compromise I think.
A few things to watch out for: this is quite a tall machine, make sure it fits under the cupboards if you're planning to put it on your worktop. The knob for selecting the number of cups is purely for the grinder, it doesn't affect the amount of water put through the filter (makes sense really, otherwise you would end up with water left in the machine that you couldn't get rid of). Cleaning the machine is actually fine, you just rinse the filter and attached plastics under the tap and replace. There is a sequence for fully cleaning the grinder but you don't need to do that too often, and it's very logical - there's even a little leaver which flicks grinds from the grinder whilst cleaning.
All in all, a great machine at a great price, couldn't recommend more highly.
