An important interdisciplinary book!,
This review is from: Visual and Written Culture in Ancient Egypt (Hardcover)
"Visual and Written Culture in Ancient Egypt" it is a welcome volume that collects related articles published through the years by Professor John Baines. The 14 high value studies (3 of them new!) are dealing with two major topics of the Egyptological studies: one core of masterly written subjects is related to the role of the writing in Egyptian society, while the second pointing out the importance of the "artistic production". They formed altogether a strong unit in the Egyptian mentality. Both the author and the editor judged more than correct, and for the benefit of the reader: as there is a strong connection between the 14 studies, they decided that is better to be united in one volume, taking also into consideration the facts that the majority of the contributions appeared in less accessible journals. This magnificent book is addressed to both Egyptologists and non-Egyptologists, being an absolutely requisite tool for everybody studying ancient Egypt.
