Love the story, but let down by poor writing,

I'm a massive fan of the Sword of Truth: it's one of my favourite fantasy series, and I've probably read the entire series from start to finish 4 or 5 times.
But with this one, Goodkind has let himself down with the writing: it feels as if he just hasn't bothered having a proof reader go through it at all. It's clumsy and almost childlike in places. Coupled with the fact that the foreword talks of him self-publishing this one to retain control over the series, I wonder if he's shot himself in the foot a bit by stepping away from the power of the publisher to tidy up some of the messy writing.
I wanted to love this, but really didn't.
