Erm... this is a tough one to rate,
This review is from: The Kingdom Beyond the Waves (Paperback)
On the plus side the book is filled with great story-line ideas, fabulous sci-fi/fantasy-tech and has an immensely vivid background history that makes you want to know more about all the parts of it. On the down side, you have to wade through a wildly inconsistent story that is nearly lacking in..., well, actual story, due to the fact that it's filled with the aforementioned ideas. Though you really do want to, you never really get to the point where you actually care about the people in the story. There's simply too much happening around them.
For me, the only reason I finished the book is because I loved so many of the great ideas Hunt presents in it.
I guess what it all comes down to is this: If you want a great story, don't bother with this one. If you can live with a rather mediocre story, but want to experience a butt-load of interesting ideas, well this might be one for you. I'm probably getting the other books he's written... probably.
