This review is from: Do No Harm: Stories of Life, Death and Brain Surgery (Hardcover)
An xcellent read, captures the humanity and the distress of working with patients with serious illness within the changing context of a health service organisation that has become increasingly impersonal and driven by targets whose outcomes are questionable and sometimes perverse. Dr Marsh gives us an insight into the dilemmas faced by a surgeon so often involved in life and death decisions, and how the concept of hope is required even where often even this possibility is hard to conjure. He also does not spare us the coldness that a someone weilding the surgeon's scapel requires. This book endorses the importance of valuing your health and living each day!
