3.0 out of 5 stars Works superbly - but connector too delicate!, 17 Dec 2009
This review is from: Freeloader Globetrotter Solar Charger (Electronics)
I bought this for trecking in Nepal. Worked very well for 5 days then (like Thomas King - 12/10/09) the USB socket, which is soldered directly to the panel, detached. In my case was when unplugging the cable. Was a rather tight fit and fearing it might be a liable to damage I had previously held it carefully, but did not on that occasion.
Thought I could easily solder it, but didn't work, presumably due to damage to the circuit near to where it came off. The panel does still work, as evidenced by voltage from a pair of flat outputs on the panel, to which I will try soldering the relevant wires of a separate USB lead.
Would strongly recommend more securely fixing the socket to the board with some araldite and the use of a short USB extension lead to further reduce the strain on the fixed socket.

PS: Managed to fix and in addition soldered another USB socket on a short length of cable to the other positive and negative outputs in case it breaks again, though that is not so likely now that I've also carefully reinforced the 'official' USB socket in position with araldite.
