This review is from: The Italian Diet (Paperback)
This is a lovely book with really nice recipes to try out along with some appetising pictures and anecdotes from the gorgeous Gino. There are just a few disappointments for me the first being that a lot of the recipes serve 8 people which is a lot larger than an average family so why? The second being that the calories are listed as per serving but it does not give you an exact weight/size of what this should be so you have to guess. Lastly there are some ingredients that say for example large potato but again no example weight to use and one person's idea of large can vary from another's by quite a lot! I would still recommend this book because it has some good ideas of how to reduce calories and information on making healthy choices along with some lovely recipe ideas.

As someone who lives in Italy, I can say that, traditionally anyway (it is changing), 8 servings is about the size you make between family and "drop-ins"...:):):) As far as weights for "a large potatoe", for example, the Italians cook "with the eye", meaning that they got it from their mothers who got it from their mothers etc...who probably never wrote it all down so it's a lot of a "pinch of this and a dash of that", if you see what I mean...Very frustrating for the we Anglo/Saxons who are perhaps used to more structure but there it is...Still, I am glad that you would still reccomend this book. It means that it really is worthwhile. Thank you.

Hello and thanks for the comment :) I understand totally about the larger families and freinds dropping in and that being the way of Italy so thanks for pointing that out, you are so lucky to live in such a wonderful place. For those of us that are watching our calories and trying to lose some weight we could definitely do with a bit more structure and not too many pinch's or dash's because i know what i am like and a tbsp of wine can become half a bottle in no time ha ha ha. Its still a gorgeous book and i am so glad that i bought it.
