This review is from: From Scotland With Love (Short Story) (Kindle Edition)
From Scotland With Love evokes everything that is important to me about Christmas. It isn't the expensive presents, posh food, and over the top decorations. It's about appreciation, for what you have, what you can give, and for where you are.
I may have been born, raised and live in England, but Scotland has my soul, I have visited many times over the last few years, and I fall in love with it a little more every time. Katie has described exquisitely exactly how beautiful and wild it actually is, and I fell in love with this charming little tale pretty much from the first page.
If you put Scotland, Snow and Loch in a synopsis to me, I am there hook, line and sinker. Add to that a well appointed cabin, lots of home cooking, a grouchy Scotsman, and a happy-go-lucky, slightly ditzy girl, and you have the perfect recipe for success.
Rory definitely had my sporran swinging and my bagpipes standing to attention ;-) I love a man who isn't afraid to show love for his animals and you get that in spades reading about Griselda his pregnant dog. You also come to understand why he is a little prickly around the opposite sex, which for me made him all the more endearing.
Daisy is great in that she proves to Rory that you should never judge a book by its cover, she may come across as a disaster when it comes to PR, but she makes up for it with other skills, and anyone who can knock up a crumble and custard in the kitchen has my vote.
All-in-all this short (I wish it was longer), incredibly sweet, heart-warming novel summed up Christmas for me. LOVED IT!
