Monitor is great but the warranty claim appears misleading,
This review is from: Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24 inch LCD TFT Monitor (16:10, 1920x1200, 300 cd/m2) (Personal Computers)
Amazon need to clarify the warranty on this because according to Dell there are all sorts of problems when buying from a reseller. According to the Dell monitor forum on 5 November 2013:
"Reasons you should not buy a Dell monitor from a reseller!
None of these resellers can provide a Dell Order number that states when they purchased the monitor from Dell. Without a Dell order number, you cannot get through our phone, chat, and web forms. This leads to all kinds of stress on you, the buyer.
The product sits in their warehouses getting old. Before too long, they could have older revisions.
When you buy directly from us, you get a Dell Order number, Dell Customer number, Dell Purchase ID number, ALL tied to you and that monitor warranty.

Not what I would expect from Amazon.

I presume from your one star review that you returned the monitor?

It has turned into a bit of a farce. I booked it for return and ordered another that was supposed to have the 3 year warranty. The one that arrived was the wrong one so that is booked for return. Amazon then advised that they had spoken with Dell who confirmed that you only get the 3 year warranty when purchasing direct from Dell. However I spoke with the Dell warranty department who advised that all monitors come with a 3 year warranty. You just need the original invoice. You cannot register the warranty online.
So the advice from supplier and manufacturer is contradictory. I am going to keep the first and trust that Dell will honour the warranty if need be. Amazon have also acknowledged that the warranty information needs clarifying so hopefully this will be done soon.

The list price of this monitor on the Dell website is over GB£100 more than the price on Amazon. Of course Dell would love you to buy direct from them, as they are making much more money from you.

To be fair, I've also had farcically bad experiences with trying to get Dell to honour warranties on items that *were* brought directly from them... YMMV.

I get a little suspicious when a review is by someone who may or may not have bought the item, you did not buy it from Amazon due to the lack of a verified purchase tag. there are just so many false reviews I tend to take these with a pinch of salt.

The monitor was purchased from Amazon as is clear from the review and response of 26/12/13. The absence of the verified purchase tag does not mean that the item was not purchased from Amazon, just that Amazon, for whatever reason, could not verify the purchase. My criticism quite clearly refers to the warranty, not the monitor itself (which is great).
Caveat emptor: if you are thinking of purchasing from Amazon and the 3 year warranty is important, check with Amazon and/or Dell first. As stated above, Dell informed me that all you need is the invoice for the 3 year warranty.
