The first ARIA winner,
This review is from: Black Ticket Day (Audio CD)
This Australian Top 30 CD (and winner of the Australian Record Industry Association award for best alternative album) sees the Kuepper/Dawson axis complimented by the subtle but solid keyboard talents of ex-Paul Kelly sideman Pedro Bull, and is packed full of gems unlike anything else in Ed's catalogue such as "Blind Girl Stripper" and "Helps Me Understand" where driving guitar and drums are complimented by the droning, hypnotic string lines of the Elektra String Quartet; the chugging, catchy "Real Wild Life" with its Prince-ly psychedelic flute riff; the jazzy "Walked Thin Wires"; and the stark, moody "All my ideas turn to crime" which sounds like it is being played in a New York bar at 2am as rain streams down the windows and Scorsese gangsters conduct their business.
He's made a lot of great music and this is some of the best.
