1.0 out of 5 stars defective - mono sound, 18 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Puccini: Manon Lescaut [Blu-ray] [2013] [Region Free] [NTSC] (Blu-ray)
The original DVD version was in stereo but this is in mono. This is a manufacturing problem by Kultur/Warner (they are identical). I had the exact same problem with their blue-ray issues of Don Carlos and The Makropulos Case - mono sound.

Are you sure? Which BD player are you using and which amplifier. I ordered it and will see on my CambridgeAudio equipment.

Noam Eitan says:
My BD player is Oppo BDP-93 with a Benchmark D/A converter>Channel Islands monoblocks. You don't need to take my word for it - in an Opera News review of the blu-ray release from the March 2014 issue (MARCH 2014 - VOL. 78, NO. 9) PATRICK DILLON writes: "the sound is late-in-the-day monaural". I can't post a link to the review because accessing the review requires a subscription. All the Kultur/Warner "re-releases" on blu-ray are mono, even though the DVD's were stereo (and they also suck in every other respect). This is a well-known issue and has been discussed on-line. You probably need to listen with headphones to realize it's mono. Amatzia - khazak ve'ematz!

WEll, I am not that deep in the BD discussions. I need the disc to prepare a lecture on this opera. For my audience mono is fine. It is really strange the sound is LPCM only without utilizing AC3 or DTS MA. Well' for the 60 shekels it should be OK. Can you suggest a worthwhile DVD or BD of Ms. Lescaut?
תודה

AC3 is garbage, LPCM is fine - it's loss-less.

There is no other ML on blu-ray. I hesitate to recommend anything to anyone, though I watched them all, because tastes vary. Check amazon reviews. I love the Muti/La Scala but I don't take the responsibility for making a recommendation for it.

Got it today. You are right! And the picture is no better than old VHS of decent quality.
Why issue old videos in BD at all?
Happily it cost me very little.
In the futere I will be very carful with Kultur and Werner Classics.
