Volume II as good as I.,
This review is from: Napoleon's Commanders: v.2: Vol 2 (Elite) (Paperback)
Calix Imperium, Roma Victrix Pewter wine beaker
Although the emphasis is often on Napoleon, the wide spread nature of the Napoleonic Wars and the slow speed on communications on the battlefield means that his subbordinate commanders played a key role in the success or failure of French armies across Europe.
Volume two of Haythornthwaite's work concentrates on those commanders who came to the fore during the last six years of the Napoleonic Wars, from 1809 to Napoleon's final defeat at Waterloo in 1815. This period saw an increasing number of French defeats as their enemies started to learn from Napoleon.
This volume covers the careers of Soult, Marmont, Grouchy, Gouvion St Cyr, Oudinot, Espagne, Rapp, Gourgaud, Jerome Bonaparte, Murat, Beauharnais, Poniatowski, Chouard, Ney, Larrey, Drouot, Joseph Bonaparte, Jourdan, Suchet, Francois-Etienne Kellermann, Eduard de Colbert and Letort. Highly recomended
