This review is from: The Liberator Chronicles: Volume 3 (Blake's 7) (Audio CD)
I am a huge fan of B7 and have been since I was a child in the late 70's. I came along at just the right time as I was watching BATMAN, Star Trek, Lost In Space, Thunderbirds, Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, Stingray, The Adventures Of SUPERMAN and films like The Day The Earth Stood Still, War Of The Worlds, Them, the Universal Classic Horrors and This Island Earth on the TV.
And Blake's 7. A stand out show that has inspired many shows after it, including the masterly BABYLON 5. B7 just grabbed me from the start and did not let go. It was a BBC show show so it had no brilliant special effects, but more than made up for ti in the story telling. Anyone that labelled it a 'cheap rip-off of Star Trek' in reviews clearly did not watch it. Robin Hood/The Dirty Dozen in space was far more accurate and engaging. Such was the strength of the series and original the story telling, that main characters died or left the centre of the show with no real loss to the programme. The after four years, it ended.
Now it has returned in audio play format, using members of the original cast. Now just for clarity, this is not the series of reboot, full audio dramatisations that have been made starring the likes of Colin Salmon, Carrie Dobro and Benedict Cumberbatch, these are one or two members of the original cast reading in a performance reading, but with sound FX and engaging dramatisation.
This third release is called The Armageddon Storm and comes in three parts, one per disc. This one is particularly good as it uses 4 original cast members across the three installments. They are Paul Darrow as Kerr Avon, Michael Keating as Vila Restal, Jan Chappell as Cally and Tom Chadbon as the returning character of Del Grant, from the original episode "Countdown"
I shall not give the story away so that it is all a great surprise, but there is some great interaction between Avon and Del about their past.
A great addition to the B7 universe.
