This was a good page turner and an enjoyable read. It was clumsily written in places, as alternative history novels often can be, and I wasn't always convinced by his interpretation of certain historical characters and events. Still, as I got in to it I found it had a nice pace, compelled me to read on and it was certainly entertaining. I enjoyed his digs at the loathsome Scottish Nationalist Party and the notion of Scotland putting nationalism before union, which I agree is not in the interests of the Scottish people or the rest of the UK. I cannot give more than a 3 however because on the whole this novel has the depth of a thriller on a cinema screen, if this is what you are looking for and you enjoy alternative histories this is a good choice. I enjoyed it as a light read that wasn't challenging, the plot was sometimes thin and predictable but I still found it compelling and an enjoyable page turner.
