Hmm ... I did think I would enjoy this book more but found myself skimming some sections where it was dragging a bit. On the other hand, the scene setting is faultless and you can picture everything vividly and each character is described in technicolour.
I think the repetitive focus on Matt's 'training' and becoming one with the universe gets a bit wearing but the story itself is a good one - you care about what happens to the characters and you find yourself rooting for them as they travel to their confrontation with the evil faeries (which are exceptionally well rendered).
If it was a little faster moving in the middle I'd probably have given it a 4 but because I almost gave up on it at one point, it's a generous 3 from me.
