Not a patch on Born to Die,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Ultraviolence (Audio CD)
Now I should first say that I loved her album Born to Die. Buy it and I doubt that you will be disappointed. However, Ultraviolence is nowhere near as good. I read other reviews that raved about Ultraviolence and I've got to say that I just can't agree. In fact, I found myself automatically reaching to turn the volume down when 'The Other Woman' came on. Lana seems to have lost touch with a lot that made Born to Die so fantastic. Having said this, I would still buy her next album in the hope that she has managed to get back some of the magic. By the way, there's a 14 year old that does a version of West Coast on Youtube. That's how it should be done and that's how Lana would have done it in the days of BTD.

Good to get your thoughts Fifth Horseman. It did cross my mind that I may be miss judging this album but clearly there are at least two of us with similar views!

Absolutely agree with your review. I haven't heard all songs completely, just the preview clips on Amazon.
However, there is no magic in this one. Even her unofficial releases on youtube are much better.
I doubt if I will buy this entire album. I was sooo looking forward to this, darn!

Hi Mahesh - it makes me wonder how an artist such as LDR can go from the brilliance that is BTD to the mediocrity that is Ultraviolence. I could almost buy into the argument that album is designed to express thoughts and emotions and to hell with the commercial aspects. But it clearly is designed/promoted to be a commercial success and because it comes off the back of BTD it is likely to sell well - albeit to people that may well be disappointed that it doesn't get close to BTD. It really doesn't do her any favours - What on earth are the people tasked with helping, advising and guiding her playing at? On a more positive note, the people at Team LDR must realise that they have to do something special with the next album to make-up for this and so I'm looking forward to it!!
