2.0 out of 5 stars An okay read, 16 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: One Brit, One Bike, One Big Country (Kindle Edition)
Got this pretty cheap for the Kindle and was glad I didn't pay a lot for it. Pretty amateur writing and I did find myself skipping parts of the book which were pretty boring. The writer struck me as one of slightly eccentric Englishmen with money to burn and didn't come across as much of a real biker. Would have preferred a bit more info on the actual planning and the fuel economy and motorcycle side of things. Also the descriptions of distances covered and actual geography of the trip.

Thanks for buying the book Mr(?) Howie. I'm sorry you found parts boring. I found writing BBB to be probably the hardest thing I have ever done, and as my first book, I don't claim to be an expert writer. In every chapter I tried to include, something about the geography, history of the places I visited, the people I met and wherever possible some humour. It's been a tough lesson to learn that you can't please everyone, as I've had some wonderful emails from people that enjoyed the book. Alas, it probably takes 10 good emails to cancel out a poor or scathing review in the mind of an author (well mine anyway).

The whole point for me was not to plan too much as I wanted the trip to be an adventure of discovery and not some tourist driven guide book. I hope you can see where I'm coming from there. As for fuel economy? You said you found some of the book boring and you want me to include figures for fuel economy? Hmmmm.

I want to say a big thank you for the comment about me being eccentric! I really like that! It's great. Thank you again.

However, 'not much of a real biker'? A Triumph Daytona and a Harley in the UK, and three months touring the USA on an Electra Glide? Not a real biker. Don't know what to say to that. Do you think it would help if I got a couple of tattoo's???
