This review is from: Jazz Me Blues: The Autobiography of Chris Barber (Popular Music History) (Hardcover)
The way that this book is written is such that you are having a conversation with Chris Barber. His verbal approach is very well captured. The book is, in many ways, a potted history of Traditional Jazz in the UK and Europe. The early years of the band are well captured, as are the accounts of their early tours in the USA and Canada - where they met a lot of their heroes. The story behind the "importing" of a variety of Blues artists is well written and, of course, the visits of the US stars begat a whole waft of Blues bands in the UK.
A good read - even to those who don't like Jazz
