This review is from: Monday to Friday Man (Paperback)
In Gilly Brown, Alice Peterson has created a very likeable character and told her story with great style and heart. This book is very well written. It is funny and moving but never trivial or over sentimental. I have read previous books by Alice and I think she is particularly good at creating believable characters. Gilly is just that and her story unfolds at a good pace through sharp writing and realistic dialogue. I particularly enjoyed Gilly's back story about her younger sister and the impact her illness had on the family, as well as Gilly's relationship with her dog, Ruskin.
There's a lot to this book. Much more than girl-meets-boy, it's a lovely story of one girl's life around her 35th birthday. I would like to see more of Gilly with a G.
