Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Kindle Fire HD 8.9", Dolby Audio, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, 16 GB - With Special Offers (Electronics)
As mentioned by others, there are no instructions. Also as mentioned by others there are ads all over it when you turn it on, that's what "with special offers" means, I thought it meant the Kindle was on offer not that you get ads all over it! Video quality is really good but hard to watch Iplayer etc as it spends all day buffering so you'll need a very good internet connection. We bought this for my partner's mum and her internet does seem quite good enough. I tried to book a restaurant on Bookatable and the drop down menus don't work. I tried to choose a size on the Marks and Spencer website and again the dropdown menus did not work. Couldn't get the Tripadvisor website to work but at least there was an app we could download, but if you can't get an app don't expect sites on the web to work as they should because they often won't. Took a lot of setting up and had to ask questions on Google constantly as there were so many issues such as not being able to increase the size of text and increase the size of text using your fingers on the screen for example. You have to go into settings and set it up as a mobile device so that you can do that. Why can't Amazon just let you use Google Chrome and other well used browsers so that websites will have been tested thoroughly on them and will work properly. Silk is ruibbish because developers will tend to only make sure that their sites work on the main browsers such as Google, IE, Firefox & Safari. Amazon- why make so much work for everyone?? Did follow suggestions and downloaded the Dolphin browser but I don't recall that it was much better. The Kindle is now with my partner's mum now so we can't test it further. One more annoying thing is that there is no remote app that we can use to access her Kindle from our PC or laptop. All the apps only allow access from Kindle to laptop and not the other way around so we can only help her by phone now. Skype screen share does not work either on the Skype app. Really disappointed! Do yourself a favour and buy an ipad!
