40 years of twin guitars....,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: 40th Anniversary Concert - Live In London (Audio CD)
a splendid package celebrating the Ash's 40 years, although only Andy Powell remains from the original line up,he has, as he has done several times over the last 20 years surrounded himself with able musicians, namely Joe Crabtree(drums),Muddy Manninen (guitar) and 12 year veteran Bob Skeat on Bass.
Covering 40 years was always going to be difficult, the set list is just about right(we'll always have personal favs missed off).As well as various classic tracks such as 'Phoenix','The King Will Come','Blowin Free' etc,its pleasing to report some rarely if ever played tracks are present, its fantastic to hear 'Right or Wrong' & 'Rainstorm' and totally unexpected to hear 'Cell of Fame' and 'Engine Overheat'
Sound quality excellent and the crowd seem well up for it,some interesting anecdotes between tracks slow the performance down somewhat but theyre welcome all the same.Sadly the special guest list is a bit diappointing, the latter years well covered and 'Spam' Spence from the '80's,unfortunately none of the originals nor late 70/early 80's members deemed it worthwhile to show up,where they invited who knows, its certainly glossed over in the, frankly, poor booklet,i suspect most of those, certainly Martin Turner/Laurie Wisefield/Trevor Bolder & John Wetton most certainly havent retired.
This package is the 2 cd and dvd set,the dvd is excellent,so you have the choice to watch and listen whever it suits you. Heres to 50 years.
