5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it (but too subtle for some), 29 April 2012
This review is from: The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists [DVD] [2012] (DVD)
I thoroughly enjoyed this film and will get the DVD or Bluray as soon as it is available. I can understand that some did not like it, and apparently some found it "boring". I can only assume that the Aardman style humour went over their heads some of the time. There were a few places where everyone around me at the cinema was silent while I found myself laughing at one joke after another. Many are subtle, some just visual, and there are some musical. It's a very good movie in my opinion. One could watch it several times and not find everything that the creators have put in there to entertain us.

I am an Aardman Fan - in fact I went to see some of their very first offerings - @ the Movies. The humour and feel of this particular outing
is in some places lacking or watered down. It is not the audience at fault here - but in pacing and direction.

Couldn't agree more. Laughed all the way through it but you have to pay attention - maybe that's what the haters found so tricky. At no point did the pace drop and I can't wait to see it again on DVD. Of course we can't all like the same things - have just returned from seeing Ted at the cinema and found it to be cheerless, unfunny drivel (and yes I do like Family Guy) while others virtually wet themselves. I suppose that's just the way it is.

Crookedmouth says:
Agree totally - "watered down" really describes the film well. "Subtle" most definitely does not.
