A Really Wonderful Calendar.,
This review is from: England by Rail Calendar, 2014 (Calendar)
There seems to be a whole slew of this type of calendar this year.
All feature wonderful Railway Company posters but this one is one of the best.
This is a really fine quality calendar printed on that superior glossy paper. Quite a few of the others would not be able to boast of this quality by cutting corners.
The real beauty of this calendar is the fantastic posters which were commissioned by the various Railway Companies to advertise destinations for holidays.
The companies spared no expense and hired some of the premier artists of the day to paint these wonderful pictures.
All the posters are from the National Railways Museum extensive Collection.
This calendar has been put together with great care and attention.
There is a wonderful spread of different locations including some really interesting ones like those for Berwick on Tweed East Coast Craft of Lincolnshire and 'The Road of The Roman' which invited the reader to tour by rail or road from Newcastle.
The earliest dates from 1925 and right up to 1958.
To the basics.
It is a generously sized calendar; each month's measures 30cm across by 32cm depth. But of course when you open it out it is double that size.
The reason for this extended length is that the posters featured are of course rectangular and quite long.
The colours are simply sublime.
All the months' places are really wonderful and the recipient of this calendar will really enjoy each months.
