Sublime and well crafted thriller,
This review is from: He Loves Me... He Loves Me Not [DVD] (DVD)
I am surprised to read some of the negative comments attached to this film by reviewers here. The film may not in Thriller terms be a Sixth Sense or a Usual Suspects, but it is a very, very good film nonetheless. Its strengths lie in the masterful way we are in the first third of the film lulled completely into believing that the film is a lighthearted and rather jolly affair with only the slightest dark undertones due to the adulterous nature of the romance. Even the picture on the DVD for all the world suggests romance and even comedy.
Then, gradually, the film's tone changes and continues to descend until the fascinating denoument in which we as an audience realsie how cleverly we have been duped.
In the hands of a mster filmmaker, a Hitchcock or a Spielberg this film would be no doubt a masterpiece but as it is, those responsible for it have made a very good thriller and with good performances, especially from Audrey Tautou and Samuel Le Bihan this film will leave you feeling a satisfied and more than a little nervous about people you think you know well.
