This review is from: The Best of the Art of Noise (Audio CD)
Plant yourself between your speakers, switch off the lights, close your eyes and relax. This album is possibly the most soothing in my collection. The Art of Noise is the Picasso of the music world, creating an original style of music which other artists have never managed to emulate. Their musical creativity is demonstrated by the totally different sounds of each track. 'Yebo' utilises tribal vocals, 'Instruments of Darkness' mixes panpipes with rave, and the fantastic 'Dragnet'(from the film of the same name) gets Dan Ackroyd rapping. The strangely amusing lyrics of 'Paranoimia', performed by Max Headroom, get me smiling every time I listen, and I suspect Baz Luhrmann's 'Sunscreen' took a few tips from this track. Fans of Tom Jones will enjoy the rendition of 'Kiss', but the track which will reach out and grab you has to be 'Peter Gunn'. Featuring Duane Eddy, this musical masterpiece is the epitomy of the Art of Noise and combines a healthy bassline with the unmistakeable 'electro-human' sounds which, in my opinion, are the trademark of the Art of Noise. Remember the theme tune they wrote for ITV's 'Krypton Factor'(Gordon Burns torturing contestants mentally and physically)? Well if you liked that, buy this album. I promise you won't be disappointed. Yello fans will appreciate this album too - there are similarities in the musical style, although the Art of Noise rounds the edges of the tunes to give a more soothing sensation.
