My first 'upscaled' Blu-Ray,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Woman Of Heart And Mind + Painting With Words And Music [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Okay, I'll deal with the question of up-scaling first, is it 'better' than a standard DVD? On this evidence of one of my favourite performances by Joni Mitchell, well, no!
The original DVD suffers from very soft focus on much of the footage (perhaps to make Joni look 'younger'), anyway, because of that and an aspect ratio of 4 x 3 I thought maybe this would be a vast improvement, plus I was getting another DVD I never purchased before. I don't usually purchase documentary videos or for that matter read biographies (well, I was there!), so I was looking forward to receiving this, as the performance of everyone involved in this concert is excellent. Sadly, this was a case of buy in haste and repent at leisure, wallet and heart depressed!
If you don't have this on DVD, I would still urge you to buy it and enjoy listening to it, as the sound is marginally better.
Joni if you read this, please, please a good quality BR for posterity. Great artists deserve better, we deserve better.
Record companies take note, I for one, will not be buying any more 'up-scaled' BR discs, until the quality is of a much higher standard than this. The words Rip Off, come to mind.
NB The other video is just as poor quality and would have looked terrible on SD, although I enjoyed it.

How is combining 2 previous dvds on 1 Blu-ray for less than the price of the 2 individual dvds ripping anyone off?
