Satisfactory but could be better,
This review is from: Belkin WiFi Netcam IP Camera with Night Vision, Motion Detection and Alerts for iOS and Android Devices - White (Accessory)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I was interested in testing this Belkin Wifi motion detecting webcam as we already use a UCam 247 NC308 camera to monitor our cat's movements in and out of the cat flap in our garage on a 24/7 basis.
In the box you get the Belkin WiFi camera with mount, power supply and instructions. The camera mount is okay in terms of adjustment but the base really does need some extra fastening. Setup was swift and easy and in no time the camera was working. An LED indicates the network connection status. In terms of connectivity you can either opt for the wireless option which worked fine with my Belkin router, or, there's an RJ45 socket for a cable if WiFi reception is patchy. A microphone is built in which will be useful in certain situations.
However, my first realisation was how spoilt we are with our existing UCam camera which runs at 720p - the Belkin can only manage a video size of 640 x 480 at 1-30fps. To me, this is behind the times for such a new model of camera. However, the night vision is effective and it gives a clear picture in near total darkness. The motion sensing software works well and sends you an email with attached image when the camera is triggered - you can also view live video but only for a short period before the camera turns off. I found the Belkkin apps are user friendly but fairly basic - those for the iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab (Android) installed without fuss. However, I could not see an app for my Windows phone (a Nokia Lumia 520) - this is quite a serious shortcoming for a device of this nature.
In summary, this camera from Belkin delivers what it claims it will but needs further refinement, notably, improved resolution and Windows Phone support to be up with the front runners in its class. As my old schoolmaster used to say on my report, "satisfactory but could do better".

Good review (and thanks) for the lower resolution version of the camera, but odd that it also appears on the page for the HD, 720p version - given that the main criticism is that the resolution isn't 720p?

Thank you for the feedback about my review. The problem about the review appearing on the HD page typifies an issue I've raised with Amazon before. It appears that products are grouped into "families" and therefore reviews for a specific item can appear on other pages rom the same supplier too. The way I will be dealing with this is that for all my reviews I now mention the precise model which I am referring to in the opening sentence of the review. Thanks again.

Would you say the Ucam is better ?

Hello, I've used the Ucam for around two years and think it has the edge because - firstly, the resolution is higher although they do an HD model, I prefer the Ucam mount and hardware generally, and, thirdly, Ucam have really good UK based support and normally reply withiin a very short time.
