Epson Perfection V33,
This review is from: Epson Perfection V33 4800dpi LED Photo Scanner (Electronics)
I had to change my computer and upgrade to Windows 7, My 10 year old Scanner Epson 610 of 10 years had no new drivers compactable with this new computer, which made my beloved scanner redundant.
I design 3D greetings cards which can be 5 layers high, and scan them to show them on the internet. My old scanner could keep the background and foreground completely in focus. I have tried other brand scanners but the background was blurred and not as clear. I decided to purchase this new Epson Perfection V33 expecting it to give the same quality, but again the background is not clear, and I am disappointed as the Epson Perfection V33 is not as good as my old scanner.

Of course the old scanner doesn't have any new drivers compatible with Win 7. It's not in the financial interests of new operating systems or makers of printers or scanners to enable users to avoid spending more money to replace perfectly satisfactory peripherals. This is business.

I agree with you WP, but I did expected the same quality as my old Epson Perfection 610. Shame.
I have reverted back to using my Camera rather than scanning because of shadows etc. Must admit this scanner is ok for single layer documents or photo's

I have been using this scanner, the quality is amazing.
With respect to the background, scan as a pdf use the free PDFill Tools to convert the multiple page pdf to a series of .png images.
Finally open your images with Gimp (free), use the select by colour tool, select a white space, click delete and save.
The white background is now removed.
