Perfect for laptop replacement,
This review is from: Toshiba Satellite Z10t-106 11.6-inch Touch Screen Notebook (Silver) - (Intel Core i5-3339Y 2.0GHz Processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD, Intel HD Graphics 4000, Windows 8 64 Bit) (Personal Computers)
This is my first ever review on Amazon, and because it took me ages to go through all the tech reviews I thought I would write a review just from a consumer point of view. I've had this machine for about 3 months now, and the performance has been perfect. I got it because I wanted to be able to use all my normal Windows apps, like Word, Outlook, Photoshop, Sony Vegas etc. on a machine that was really light enough to carry on holiday. I have edited AVCHD footage from a hacked Panasonic GH2 camera in Vegas and it worked absolutely painlessly. Render speed wasn't too different from my Sony Vaio Quad Core i7, I suppose because writing to SSD is faster than HDD.
I haven't had any problems at all with the keyboard disconnecting, as the other reviewer wrote. I think it's important to press the small "disconnect" button before touching the release latches. In addition to all the normal programmes that just "work", my kids play quite a few games on it. You can easily link it to the TV for one of those driving games e.g. If you wanted to do that with an Apple iPad I think you'd have to spend £50 for the proprietary cable. That sort of thing annoys me.
I've knocked off a star because I think 2 USB ports (only one of which is USB 3) is not enough. You probably wouldn't use this machine for all-day word processing sessions, at least not without a larger external keyboard, but the angle of view of the screen (close to upright) is actually just right for when you're lying on the sofa!
Upgraded to Windows 8.1 straight away, which is surprisingly pleasant to use on this kind of machine. I paid £850 for mine, but I've seen it advertised here for over £1000 which is a bit too high in my view.
