More than a Scholar or a Gentleman,
This review is from: A Scholar and A Gentleman (Audio CD)
Those familiar with the immense influence of Davy Graham as a guitarist on folk, blues jazz music from the 1960's and familiar also with the eclectic mixture of genres that made him a sort of one-man world music guru before the term was invented will need no recommendation of the quality of his work. This 2 cd set claims to present an overview of his 'glory years' between 1963 and 1970.It delivers this promise in spades. It draws on such albums as 'The Guitar Player' 'Folk Blues And Beyond ' Folk Roots New Routes'
Midnight Man, 'Large As Life And Twice As Natural' 'Hat', and 'Holly Kaleidoscope'If you are familiar with these already and your original vinyls are worn thin then this is an excellent replacement. If you are not familiar with Grahams' work , this is an excellent introduction to his work. Then buy the originals or at least as many as have been re-released. If you have never heard of him try him out. He was a real guitar hero who influenced far more than folk music.
