Lovesongs about home,
This review is from: Shotgun Lovesongs (Hardcover)
Nice story about the sense of belonging to a place. The place in this novel is a small Wisconsin town, but it could have been set in most parts of the rural U.S. (Midwesterners will argue that point, I'm sure) The book's message is that living where everyone knows you is a plus that gets you through life's ups and downs. There are plenty of books that take the opposite view (a small town is oppressively intrusive, etc.) but "Shotgun Lovesongs" effectively argues that friendships made early in life can be enduring and necessary for survival.
There are already many good reviews of this book, so I'll only add that this is an interesting, upbeat short novel that most readers of fiction will enjoy.
