5.0 out of 5 stars Blu Ray NOT DVD Review, 16 Feb 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Cabaret [Blu-ray] [1972] (Blu-ray)
This new transfer reproduces the original look of the film perfectly. Don't expect fine detail and stunning definition as the softness is deliberate, and the blu ray precisely captures the director and cinephotographer's intentions. The 5.1 audio remix (originally 4track) is very good too but once more don't expect spectacular sound. This upgrade is definitely recommended however as it's a definite improvement on the old DVD version and on par with the 40th Anniversary edition.

Hi, thanks for your review! I'm just a bit confused about the region aspect of this Blu-ray because amazon states that it's region A but in your review you wrote that it's region free. I live in Europe and would love to order this movie but my blu-ray player is region B only so I don't feel safe enough to order it. I contacted one of the sellers and they told me they only work with region A titles so I was hoping you could help me!

Thanks!

Hi. I have a multi-region Oppo so it plays anything. May I suggest you look up Cabaret on the blu-ray review website as I'm sure it's region free and that should confirm. Just search under Cabaret blu ray review and it should pop up. Do be aware though the quality is nothing as good as with modern blu ray releases and may disappoint you but it IS as it was originally shot.

I can confirm this item :Cabaret [Blu-ray] [1972] [US Import] is region fee, it plays on my Region B Philips BDP5200.
BD quality is as stated above, 'as shot' - better than DVD - and benefits are far superior contrast, better sound and very clear subtitle lettering.

Thank you so much for being explicit on the Region free aspect...... Many Blu-ray have this confusion....I have a Sony BDP S350 which is region 3 and based on your input, I' am going ahead and ordering this classic! Thanks again
