Bit like that Dallas season where Bobby had been in the shower,
This review is from: The Big C - Season 3 [DVD] (DVD)
The Big C is a bold concept, and the brilliant Laura Linney leads an excellent cast in this moving and oddly amusing show. Season three, however, is a real let-down. Not in terms of the acting, but the rather dire plot lines.
There is plenty to fill seasons 1 and 2, with her refusing to share her diagnosis and any chemotherapy in 1, then sharing her diagnosis and getting treatment in 2. Plenty of plot lines that follow the basic theme and make perfect sense.
Season 3, which could be subtitled "In Remission", sees her returning to living a "normal" life after her treatments appear to have worked. What causes the problems here is that the stuff she does is just, well, plain silly. And as for her son joining a religious sect (I don't know of many Christian groups who behave like those in the show - their solution to "saving yourself until you are married" is really bizarre), it just doesn't ring true - especially the way that Adam treats the stuff he found in the self-storage unit at the end of season 1. I can see why Cathy would wonder about having another baby, but the plot line with Susan Sarandon (who plays the role very well) is dire.
Season 4 starts in such a way that you could easily slip straight from the finale of season 2 to the start of season 4 without any real bother. I almost wish they had planned it to be shown that way.
