New Genre Again (Kind of!),
This review is from: Man On The Rocks (Audio CD)
So yet again Mike Oldfield has jumped music genres again (last release was Music of The Spheres - totally classical), and has produced a rock/pop album. Brings back memories of albums such as Crise, Five Miles Out and Islands with 'songs' that were balanced with his trademark long pieces. The balance of non spoken tracks can be obtained by the Deluxe Edition that provides instrumental versions of the vocal songs; some of these stand up on their own right, but some you really realize they need vocals as an additional track to complete the piece.
You can tell when you have an excellent album when you hear a song and realize you do not have to listen to it 5-10 more times before you really get to like it instead of saying "meh - this was just an album filler".
Extremely recommended, especially for those who haven't got any Mike Oldfield albums.
What an amazing musician, why hasn't he got an MBE/OBE yet?
