This review is from: Serenity (Audio CD)
I was first introduced to Bvdub's music when his tracks began being selected for Kompakt's legendary 'Pop Ambient' series. In particular, Bvdub's two offerings on Pop Ambient 2010 caught my attention. So from here I came to find with a little exploring that bvdub is a hugely prolific producer (7 releases last year, and three albums released already in 2012). Serenity is potentially the best yet. Each track unfolds and evolves in such hypnotic ways. It's both sublimely beautiful and really intelligent. Each track goes through it's own journey.
To my mind, Bvdub is to ambient what Burial is to dubstep. Clear and distinct, hard hitting, and somehow managing to be both tragically humane and uplifting at the same time. The use of vocal samples is another feature that both Bvdub and Burial get just right. Perhaps Serenity is a little more pacey than a number of his other releases, but this takes nothing away from it. The album includes 6 tracks, each between 9-18 minutes long. It's hard to pick a favourite, but perhaps 'Beauty' and 'Love' would be the pick of an extremely ripe bunch. In all honesty, all six tracks are amazing and anyone who likes music with plenty of depth and feeling cannot fail to be impressed by this. The sound is really epic.
Verdict: 5 stars all the way!
