This review is from: The Best of John Fahey Vol.1: 1959-1977 (Audio CD)
This CD provides an outstanding overview of John Fahey at his best as both performer and composer. Melodic, original, engaging solo instrumental pieces played with real attack and gusto. It covers a period when Fahey was really sharp and focused and his playing challenged the best acoustic guitar players anywhere. No one ever thumb picked with the attack he did during this period - fingerpicking a full loud sound out of his dreadnought Martin guitar.Add to that, this edition comes with three new bonus tracks (tracks 16-18) making it a must buy.If you want a CD full of striking, original, gutsy guitar pieces - this is worth it. The tunes are a fusion of traditional American blues and folk and John Fahey's reinventions of both.Full of short, sharp punchy pieces, it illustrates John Fahey's legacy very well. Only Leo Kottke can touch him in this field of solo, finger-picked, steel strung acoustic guitar blues and folk.
