this book opened my eyes to how badly humans can treat each other,
This review is from: The Forgotten Highlander: My Incredible Story of Survival During the War in the Far East (Hardcover)
The book shows how an ordinary young man , which I think me it easy to relate to , enjoyed life was forced into the most horrendous situations over and over and survived. Being quite young I was never really aware of what happened in WWII at a psychological level anyway, they don't teach you about that in high school history, partly due to the fact that many of the men simply did not talk about their experiences. So was expecting a kind of Hoolywood take on WWII beware this is not the case. What I found amazing and shocking in equal measures was how easily people were willing to torture each other and work them to death, which is described in disturbing clarity, it really opened my eyes. I strongly recommend you read this book. Then make sure someone else reads it too.
