This story is rather different from the author's previous two books featuring forensic pathologist, Dr Hunter, in that he is visiting a research facility in the USA that studies decomposition of cadavers under different environmental conditions euphemistically called The Body Farm. The upshot of this is that his expertise is not central to the story as he has to play second-fiddle to his hosts. The pathologists at the Body Farm also collaborate with police investigations and a case arises during Dr Hunter's visit that he is co-opted into helping with but which leads to some hostility from the police investigators. It's a good story with red herrings and cliff-hangers and certainly kept me reading.
