This review is from: Deloume Road (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)This book tries to be atmospheric and to show rather than tell you about the various characters. However I desperately needed a map or something to keep it straight about who lived where on this road. It was made even more confusing as sometimes chapters were set in the past, with the present day character's ancestors. The main characters are four boys, two brothers one of whom has a learning disability, this is never defined. Then there is the older brother's friend, and the outsider boy who lives next door. It ends with a tragedy, which is hinted at throughout the book.
Unfortunately I found it hard to keep the character's straight, so found it hard to care. It left me with an overall curiosity as to whether the social services in Canada are truly this bad, because surely they should have intervened?
An okay read when you are stuck, but not really recommended by me.

Good to read your honest take. I think you'll note from my review that not everyone is madly keen on the way this book is written.
