This review is from: The After - Season 1 (Amazon Instant Video)
This pilot was a real disappointment and it seems as if Chris Carter has gone to seed in the last couple of decades. The set-up is a cliched initially-undefined apocalypse scenario seen in films like 'The Happening' and 'Cloverfield' and in shows like 'The Walking Dead'. It relies heavily on a rather contrived device of flinging together a group of disparate characters (a clown, an aspiring actress, a hard man, an old lady, a businessman, a policewoman, etc.) in a lift and then seeing how they survive together. The actors are pretty good given the thin material they have and there is a fairly well-sustained degree of tension, though it really is quite annoying how vague everything is. The swearing is so bad that the characters even repeatedly comment on it themselves and one character strips off completely gratuitously and swims in a pool. They all have the same birthday - oo wooo ooo wooo eee ooh. They have similar tattoos. They get attacked by looters. They meet a ghastly looking humanoid creature in the woods which scuttles off at a 100mph. The end. No thanks, Amazon.

Yup, pretty much summed it up for me too. However I am a sucker for a freebie so I will give it another go and see if it manages to unjump the shark.
