The Linksys route has many nice features, and it looks like a great buy. The problem is that its protocol is the older PPPoE for Ethernet protocol. BT, use the newer PPPoA which means in simple terms that the WAN port on this router will not communicate with your ADSL Modem. If you have bought a personal ADSL service, from BT or connected to BT, you no doubt have been supplied with the flying saucer standard BT - USB modem for single user use. It's nice to think that you could buy an ADSL modem with an Ethernet outlet and plug this into the Linksys router. The theory is nice, your modem will communicate with your ISP no problem but will not communicate with this router no matter what you do. The rest of the features work fine but you can buy these features for a lot less money, elsewhere. I can't comment on if this box will work with your cable modem, but before you buy ask your ISP if they are PPPoE or PPPoA. If they are PPPoA stay well away from this box. I have to question the mentality of the manufacturer in offering this box in the UK at all! However, I will be testing this box on cable ADSL and will be glad to forward the results by email. If you are looking for an alternative try the Eicon Diva 2440, it only has 2 network ports, and it costs more but it includes the ADSL modem and it works.
